# Books, Categories, and Tags

You can manage all of these items from **Settings**.

## Books

Open **Book** to add, edit, reorder, archive, or delete books.

| Purpose              | Description                                                             |
| -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Record ownership** | Every record must belong to a book                                      |
| **Filter scope**     | Home, Statistics, Budget, and Assets can all be filtered by book        |
| **Sharing**          | Invite other people to share through iCloud                             |
| **Archive**          | Hide a book from common choices while preserving its historical records |

Books do not store balances. Initial balances and later balance changes belong to accounts. Books only organize, filter, and share records.

## Categories

Open **Category**, choose the current book, and then manage income and expense categories.

1. Tap Add, enter a category name, and choose an icon.
2. Add a subcategory under a primary category when you need more detail.
3. Drag categories to change their order when adding a record.
4. Edit a category to change its name, icon, or status.

Categories belong to books, so each book can have a different category structure.

## Tags

Open **Tag** to add or manage tags. A tag can be used across categories, and one record can have multiple tags.

Common uses include travel, renovations, work expenses, or special events. Statistics can summarize records by tag, and Search can filter by tag.

## Archive and Delete

| Action      | When to use it                                                    | Effect on history                         |
| ----------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| **Archive** | You no longer use the book regularly but want to keep its history | Preserves the book and historical records |
| **Delete**  | You no longer need the book or its content                        | Deletes the book and related records      |

Deleting a book and its related records cannot be undone. Before deletion, enter the number shown on the confirmation page.
